Migraines are a medical condition that has often been overlooked. If mama is prescribing you tea for this chronic headache, it may not be enough to stop this medical condition.
Migraines are not fully understood, so the information and studies are limited. Though many scientists don't know much about the occurrence of this condition, they can state some triggers that may cause migraines to occur.
Lack of or too much sleep
Skipped meals
Bright lights, loud noises, or strong odors
Menstrual cycle
Stress and anxiety
Weather changes
Alcohol or Caffeine
Certain foods.
I myself suffer from migraine headaches, and I can verify that all of these listed above contribute to my migraines. I stay away from nuts, citrus, and cheese in terms of food, especially during that time of the month.
Taking care of Migraines is a job within itself. Some ways I stay ahead of my migraines are
Bring my water bottle everywhere
Implement protein and veg in my diet
Carry some Advil liquid gels in my purse
Remove myself from stressful situations
Keep my caffeine intake at a minimum
Avoid artificial perfumes, I wear natural scents like lavender
Stay away from food with MSG
It's challenging managing migraines in a world filled with different scents and loud noises. The worst part is dealing with perfume. Put down the Chanel No. 5 friends because all those luxury perfumes are triggers. So how do you hang out with those friends who love to drown themselves in cologne or perfume? Just ask. Tell them you suffer from migraines and that it's hard for you to manage certain smells. If they care about you, they will keep the spritz to a minimum.
Dealing with migraines is the absolute worse. It feels like a truck ran you over. The pain can occur in multiple places, from my temple to my eye. Here are some habits I have implemented to get rid of my migraines.
Drink water
Eat a hot meal
Take some Advil
Take a hot shower
Lay down in complete darkness and silence
One skill I have learned is to relax the muscles in my jaw. A lot of tension may occur in that area, which may worsen your migraines. Learning to relax and destress in general can be beneficial if you suffer from this medical condition. One of my triggers is stress, and avoiding it can do wonders.
Migraines are debilitating and can be a sign of different factors, which is why it's vital to see a neurologist. Of course, start with your doctor and go from there. Migraine medication is available, but if it's not for you, then it's completely understandable. For me, I will stick to my healthy lifestyle and pain management routine cause if it ain't broke, dont fix it.
